slatted canister
An original canister was made of 8 alternating slats of walnut and maple on a segmented walnut base. It was turned inside and out on the lathe. The canister was then cut into rings on the bandsaw and sanded. The rings were then stacked diagonally and glued back into the original shape with spacers of small pieces of maple. The whole assembly was then turned again inside and out on the lathe and sanded. A tightly fitting lid was added.

Cherry Bowl
I won a piece of cherry in a raffle at my last turners club meeting. After a glorious Saturday morning chasing cracks this 9 inch by 2 inch bowl is the result. I finished it with Mahoney’s Utility finish and Beall buffed.

THe Spurtle or Scottish stirring stick
Not widely used in the USA, so rarely seen here, the Scottish stirring stick was used to stir things like porridge. One of the things I like about it is that it is not very wide, so not much of the food will stick to it, and it will not scratch pots and pans.
It has been sanded to 400 grit and then one coat of mineral oil has been applied. 2 to 3 more coats of mineral oil will be applied before it gets released to a friend of mine.

Snowman in cocobolo
Just anend piece of what I think is Cocobolo. I decided to try and make a snowman with it although it’s not a very big piece, I liked the outcome. I need to find some eye screws for it now 🙂

Steady Rest
Carl,
This is a pic of a steady rest that I make in my home shop. I have been working on this design for about a year and feel that it is finally ready.
I have spent numerous hours watching your videos on Youtube. I really enjoy all of the projects you make. It is nice how some are simple and some are complex.
