Salton Sea Hatchet

Salton Sea Hatchet

In this video I made a hatchet out of a piece of wood we found at the Salton Sea down in southern California. I show a few clips of the shore line, and the surrounding area. I found the Damascus steel on Ebay and thought it was a good fit. I used a piece of Cocobolo for the wedge, and wrapped the handle with braided leather.

Project Update & Q&A

Woodturning – Acacia Lidded Box

Acacia Lidded Box
In this video I turned a lidded box on the lathe. I started out with a 6″ by 5 1/2″ of Acacia between centers. I trued it up with a roughing gouge and put a tenon on both ends. After that I parted the blank into two pieces one will be the lid and one the body of the box. I shaped the inside of the lid first, and then the body. With a parting tool I made a small grove and inlay-ed mother of pearl and viper green Opal. As a finish I used Doctors Walnut Oil.

Wrist Rocket

I carved a wrist rocket out of a solid piece of Acacia wood. I cut the basic shape with the bandsaw before refining it with the Arbortech and sanding. A LOT OF SANDING! I finished it with Doctors Walnut finish.

Woodturning – Firewood Bowl

I turned a piece of firewood into a bowl, and painted it with metal reactive paint. This piece of firewood wasn’t the best for turning. It have several cracks and a few punky spots.
