Tricky lidded box

I wanted to make a vase/box with a lid, but where do you put the lid once it’s off? I actually drew up plans for this one, which was going swimmingly until the bottom blew out where the Nova chuck was holding it. There is a crack running up one side of it from the red gum, and every time I remounted it at the top, it kept spreading, so up close, it isn’t totally perfect, but happy with it all the same.
